Thank you for all of your prayers for baby Clay and his heart murmur! We went up to the children's hospital in Portland to get the pediatric cardiologist to check him out, and things look really good. I know I already emailed most of you but I will explain further here. The ultrasound showed a small hole in between the 2 top chambers in his heart.the doctor said the hole is in a good position and the most common spot where holes like this usually are. The fact that it was listened to by the same doctor twice and sounded louder the second time is a good sign-that means that there is a good chance that it sounded louder the second time because it could be closing. the smaller the hole, the harder the blood flowing through it has to pump to get through it-hence the louder the murmur. She said as of right now there is nothing we need to do. She said either it will gradually get smaller and eventually close by itself-or not. And even if it doesn't close, it should not affect his health. He would be able to function normally in everyday life and even be active in sports. She said he could be an olympist and shouldn't have any problems. :)So, right now the course of action is to monitor it during his well baby check ups..and they want us to have the same cardiologist check it again in a month. He is doing really well, gaining weight finally!! The doctor was concern when he only gained 4 ozs in a week (they want babies to gain an oz a day....) But he was 8lbs 4 ozs on Monday, 8lbs 10ozs yesterday and was 8 lbs 13ozs today!! So well above an oz a day!! I can't believe just nursing him has made him almost 9 lbs!! Our trip to Portland was a bit of a nightmare so I am tickled we don't have to make it again for a month, we are definitely tired of doctor appts everyday..ugh..we got there with little time to spare, so no time to eat. I did get Carly milk, apples slices and organic cookies from the hospital. Clay ate of course but Will and I ate nothing and I was running off 3 hours of sleep because of staying up with Clay the night before. Our appt was at 130 so we left at 10 am..and didn't leave the hospital until after 5! Then, we had to find food and drive another 3 hours home. We ran out of diapers and wipes!! And had to stop a store to buy a whole pack to give us one to get home with..lol..ugh...a nightmare...So needless to say it was a looong day-but well worth it to know our little man is ok.. :)And I have once again learned my lesson of not assuming anyone will have it together enough to get us in and out just because we have a scheduled appt, and to pack more than I need lol. That's our update for his heart, and once again thank you for all the prayers, God is definitely listening...
